Essaouira In the 18th century the port and the city
of Essaouira were constructed in front of the Mogador isles known
for its hornmouth trade. The walls, the Medina, the Skala and
the sea port are witnesses to a glorious maritime era. Today the
peacefulness of the city, its soft climate -almost all the year-
with omnipresent wind make of it a heaven for surfers who come
from all over the world. Nautical sports are the main activity
of the city.
Essaouira is not visited for its festive night life. The city
has no discotheque no lively bar for the time being.
The most festive period is that of the Gnaoua music festival
known in all Morocco and gaining ground all over the world. Every
year more national groups join the list of visitors.
The cultural and artistic activities of the city are numerous:
Some specialties: marquetry items, potery , wrought iron, tableaus
, argan oil.
Like in the other cities, when you make a purchase you must bargain.
Take your time to negotiate to a lower fair price.
